Memorial services for Beulah B. McClendon, 97 of Gilchrist Ave. Artesia, NM will be held at First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Rev. Walter Isaac will officiate. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
Beulah Bernice Bowen McClendon was born August 7, 1913 to Charles and Blanche Lorry Bowen in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Beulah was raised and educated in Oklahoma. As a young lady, her family migrated to New Mexico, settling in the Loco Hills area. Beulah met and married W. R. McClendon and they co-owned and operated a Loco Hills shopping complex that included a restaurant, grocery store and gas station. Beulah enjoyed playing bridge but loved to dance at the local senior citizens center. She was also an integral part of the Good Samaritan Helpers Club which helped the local nursing homes care for their residents and with purchasing items for distribution. Beulah was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband W. R. McClendon in 1977; son Ronald Joe McClendon in 2005; 1 brother and 1 sister.
Beulah is survived by daughter Donna C. Freeman of Artesia, and grandchildren Ronnie D. Freeman and Kayla McClendon.
