Efren B.

Mass of Christian burial for Efren B. "Shorty" Parras, 75, of Gamble Quail Court, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday (Aug. 30) at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski OFM Conv., officiating. Interment will follow in the new section of Carlsbad Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Thursday at West Funeral Home. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at San Jose Catholic Church.

Efren Begarano Parras passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013 at his home.

He leaves behind his wife of 46 years Mary (Martinez) Parras of the family home; daughter Grace Amalla and her husband Frankie of Carlsbad; sons: John-Robert Parras of Phoenix, AZ and George Martinez of Carlsbad; daughter Dora Palmer of Oregon City, OR; four grandchildren: Frankie-Lee, Jeremy, Sharity, and Angelo Amalla; his great-grand child, Heavenly Grace Valenzuela; brothers Frank and Pete Parraz and sisters Arcelia Parraz and Elvira Parraz Hernandez as well as many friends.

Efren was born in Loving, NM on November 2, 1937 to Serapio and Maria (Begarano) Parras. He was raised in Loving and was a lifelong resident of Carlsbad.

Efren worked for the City of Carlsbad, Duval mine and retired from Western-Ag mine after 25 years of service. In retirement he enjoyed going to the local McDonalds to have coffee and breakfast and reminisce with old friends. He enjoyed football games and old western movies. Efren loved to laugh and always had a joke, but nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grand baby.

He will be missed very much.

Pallbearers are Frankie, Jeremy and Angelo Amalla, George Martinez and Cosme Martinez Jr.
